The Market Analysis team is responsible for providing company leadership with comprehensive assessments of North American energy market economics. The team supports tens of billions of dollars of investment decisions in solar, wind, battery storage and hydrogen annually. Company leadership looks to this group for analysis from power plant economics to long term grid evolution. We are a data-driven team that believes in continuous improvement and collaboration and we are always looking to develop better tools, processes, and modeling approaches through learning and knowledge sharing. Principal Analyst responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage power market production-cost models and resource planning models including Aurora XMP and proprietary tools with up-to-date market intelligence including supply and demand fundamentals and economic drivers
  • Develop and maintain long term forecasts for energy, ancillary services, capacity, REC and emission allowance prices in support of new renewable project development, merger and acquisitions, and management of existing power generation assets
  • Provide market insights and customized analysis in North America power markets including ERCOT, PJM, MISO, NYISO, and CAISO based on experiences and knowledge of market fundamentals, resources mix and regulatory initiatives
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external contacts which will support the development of data describing the key economic factors
  • Synthesize a market view consistent with fundamental economic incentives and theory and communicate this view to the organization towards the purpose of achieving consensus on this view


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field, such as Economics, Engineering and Environmental Science
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in energy industry along with forecasting, economic analysis, and asset management experience, or a combination of a graduate degree with 4 years of experience
  • Strong data management, data analysis, and data visualization skills (Excel, PowerPoint) and attention to details
  • Capable of evaluating complex technical and financial issues independently, developing recommendations, action plans, and managing multiple complex assignments simultaneously with clear priority and in a timely manner


Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or graduate degree in a quantitative field, such as Economics, Engineering and Environmental Science
  • Experience with Aurora XMP or similar production cost models
  • 6+ years of experience in energy industry along with forecasting, economic analysis
  • Sophisticated data management and statistical analysis skills using Excel VBA, Power BI, R and Python

Job Overview

This position focuses on developing long term, fundamentals based forecasts for energy, capacity, and ancillary service products. Employees in this role oversee and perform highly complex studies and forecast power prices for a period of 30 years. This position works closely with internal and external technical and engineering teams to develop forecasts to support existing and new projects and/or technologies and serves as Subject Matter Expert regarding complex proprietary forecasting methodologies and modeling tools while maintaining process documentation and ensuring consistency with approved methodologies.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with internal and external contacts in support of the development of data describing the key market factors
  • Formulates inputs to electric sector modeling tools and assists in modeling efforts
  • Maintains electric sector models and proprietary tools with up-to-date market intelligence
  • Performs market simulations and develops long-term power market forecasts in support of development, Merger and Acquisitions, and management of existing assets
  • Develops proprietary modeling tools and methodologies to analyze evolving markets and the impact on company businesses
  • Analyzes market, historical, and fundamental data to draw inferences and present results in a clear and understandable format to management and external customers
  • Provides training and supervision to junior modeling staff
  • Presents forecast results to management as needed
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
