Sr Spc TSA - Emissions and SEEL Power

The Role

Shell Trading integrates a global portfolio of crude oil, refined products, natural gas, Emissions, electrical power, chemicals, and freight trading based in the UK, US, Canada, Singapore, The Netherlands, Japan, Barbados, United Arab Emirates, The Philippines, and Russia. Additionally, it provides marine expertise to operating units and manages a substantial fleet of vessels. Currently the team is broadly divided into two areas, North America (NA), WONA (World outside NA) & Global Freight. This role will specifically cover trading settlement activities for Environmental Products Trading entities (viz. STEP, SEEP, STEV, SENA, SENAC); Asia G&P entities (covering Australia, Japan and Philippines) and SEEL Power business. The purpose of this role is to be an effective Subject Matter Expert on Settlements process and working closely with different teams within the Trading business, particularly the Commercial teams based at different locations for effective process stabilizing.

Position Description – Accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with Trading, Commercial Operations, Financial Reporting, and Finance Operations to ensure requirements and expectations as well as issues are captured, understood, and acted upon in a timely manner; keep abreast of new and changing business/markets.
  • Ensure that the Accounting group has the capability to effectively support the present and future Shell Trading Business and is organized to optimally deliver this support.
  • Help bring alignment across the organization through clear understanding of the key business drivers and the impact of each function on these drivers.
  • Ensure business-linked objectives and metrics are in place for each segment of the Accounting group, work closely with the organization to achieve them.
  • Constant view to improve systems and processes with an aim towards elimination of manual data capture, improving reconciliation capabilities and continuing down the path of straight through processing.
  • Assess the company’s need to be Sarbanes Oxley compliant in certain areas and then drive the necessary level of compliance.
  • Work with and support the wider team to ensure accuracy of Settlements Process through timely and accurate recognition of expenses and revenue.
  • Additional responsibilities include project management, system upgrades, enhancements, implementations, and testing.
  • Support implementation of new business/projects and associated system/process changes.
  • Ability to work with a ‘one team mindset’ i.e. offshore and onshore together.
  • Manage key stakeholders as appropriate on behalf of the Hydrocarbon organisation.
  • Provide process and process design assurance.
  • Tax and Compliance Reporting.
  • Provide cross training within the Back-Office organisation


  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with Trading, Commercial Operations, Finance Operations, and Financial Reporting to ensure requirements and expectations as well as issues are captured, understood, and acted upon in a timely manner.
  • Dynamic environment with high change management in systems, processes, and people.
  • Recent system implementation that requires many manual workarounds and designing new and evolving processes.
  • Exposure to Power BI would be an added advantage.
  • Must possess ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work in fast-paced Trading environment, handle pressure well and deliver results in critical situations.
  • Good accounting knowledge to understand E2E flow of entries into Financial system for reporting requirement and to be a ‘Subject Matter Expert’ for effective resolutions.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across all cultures both within the organization and with external counterparties.
  • Flexibility in shift to stay connected with the business continuously considering process requirements and complexities.
  • Handle audit requests
  • Control mindset to operate Key SOX, Non-SOX controls

Experience and Qualification required

Professional degree in Accounting or Finance or related business degree would be preferred. Good accounting knowledge with strong experience in Accounts Receivables and Payables domain along with understanding of Financial Statement concepts. Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a short turn-around time involving complexities and competing priorities. Proven ability to work pro-actively and with minimum supervision. Working knowledge of trading, reporting systems: Aligne, ENDUR, SAP Should be a team player and should be able to influence internal team and stakeholders with or without any direct authority. Should be able to lead the team, when needed Should have good interpersonal skills Should be able to support and troubleshoot on behalf of the team from process and system’s perspective Should be respectful to teams and stakeholders Should have CI mindset Should have good communication, writing and presentation skills
