Distribution Operations play a key role in the Shell value chain and is a key enabler in the delivery of Shell’s fuel products to customers. Distribution Operations is developing strategic capability through dedicated new business, improvement and digital roles in the Business Integration & Assurance team and will support the Energy transition plans for the growing activity in LNG, Shell Energy Nigeria and RNG.

In this role, you will be part of the Trading and Supply Transport Organization and will be reporting to the Road Transport Contract Manager for Gujarat. You will be responsible for executing road transport contracts and  ensuring contracted transporters are complying to the Shell requirements and are operating as per  the agreed processes.

What’s the role?

As Road Transport Compliance  Coordinator (RTCC) for West, you are responsible for managing overall day to day relationship with multiple hauliers and contractors operating out of a location.

Further accountabilities are as follows:

  • Managing contract compliance in the location(s) by reviewing in the field loading and delivery processes, Journey Management Plan, driving time and other agreed parameters as well as vehicle compliance against Shell global standardsor locally agreed requirements
  • Execute road transport contracts and ensure compliance towards contract requirements (incl. monitor haulier contractual KPI on a periodical basis, contract management plan, annual contract review
  • Conduct onsite controls of drivers (including Driver Trainers if relevant) / vehicles (incl. vehicle maintenance procedure) to ensure full compliance of all activities fulfilled by the hauliers and drivers with legal requirements and global Shell standards
  • Conduct site risk assessments at retail customer sites and depots to ensure full compliance with all Shell requirements, drive issue solutions if necessary
  • Manage road transport HSSE activities/programs (including  HSSE Assurances,  HSSE Programs for hauliers and drivers, etc). Engage with hauliers and stimulate them to apply a culture of proactive safety management in their operations/amongst their drivers and other staff
  • Promote safety Best Practice and other improvement initiatives and support their implementation
  • Ensure investigation of incidents (including potential incidents with high severity ratings, analyse and communicate all learnings from incidents in the own operations as well as from other parts of the world. Participate in incident investigation and follow up on implementation of agreed action plan
  • Ensure that Contractors/Hauliers have in place an effective recruitment and training procedure for drivers and staff, that meets Shell requirements
  • Represent Shell during driver meetings and defensive driving trainings
  • Monitor and Report Safety and operational Road Transport KPIs
  • Carry out haulier audits and agree improvement programmes with them including setting and follow-up of targets. Participate in incident investigation and follow up on implementation of improvement plans
  • Represent and participate in industrial related HSSE workshops
  • Manage the vehicle injection/re-fleeting program to balance risks (including technical) and costs. Carry out haulier rationalization program or equivalent including in alignment with Country Category Review recommendations
  • Provide support to any company initiatives (e.g., Portfolio, Optimization projects, etc.) where there is RT involvement
  • Manage interface with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), develop relationship with industry peers on common agenda.
  • Challenges
    • Long delivery distances coupled with small and fragmented haulier base
    • Developing competent HSSE resources in collaboration with hauliers for enforcing contractual requirements in line with expected outcome
    • Frequently changing supply and delivery plans – fragile supply chain

What we need from you

  • Graduate of Master’s or Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in logistics / economics / business administration
  • Min 4 – 5 years working experience, preferably in road transport operations / economics / contracting.
  • Prefer sound knowledge of HSSE standards and local legislation applicable for Oil and gas road transport logistics in India
  • Preferably experience of running operations, and interface of terminal or supply operations
  • Sound contract management skills
