Where you fit in

The Pulau Bukom Manufacturing Site today is the largest Shell refinery in the world in terms of crude distillation capacity, which makes Singapore a key regional supply and trading centre for Shell in the East. Singapore is the largest petrochemical production and export centre in the Asia Pacific region.

Bukom will continue to remain a core site for Shell in this region and continues to be the backbone of value creation across a wide range of our businesses, such as Trading, Chemicals and Specialties businesses.

What’s the role?

You will provide process technological support and assurance, as well as support to the development of assigned major projects of the Bukom Manufacturing site.

Furthermore, you will be accountable for the following:

Support operational excellence:

  • Monitor unit performance and actively contribute to Production Unit cadence touchpoints.

  • Perform proactive technological (performance) monitoring timely. Perform second-line, more complex troubleshooting RCA's and investigations and delivering simple fit-for-purpose solutions.

  • Monitor, review, and update unit basic data performance. Monitor, review, and improve unit energy efficiency and environmental performance. Monitor, review, and report out unit performance.

  • Support process control/APC strategies to sustain optimal operations. Support AMS processes.

  • Provide technology support for preparation of and executing turnarounds.

Be technological conscience:

  • Understand, monitor, and document the technological operating windows of units. Initiate MOC when required.

  • Provide technology assurance on operational procedure and crude acceptance.

  • Support product quality assurance.

Work on systematic / continuous improvement:

  • Identify and realize opportunities for improvement of the process in HSSE, capacity, yields, margin, energy, costs, and quality.

  • Define and support development of projects and plant changes.

    • Ensure that project development in line with the site’s long term aspiration plan and strategic direction

    • Ensure that project capex/revex are clearly identified, deliver the progress of the projects to meet the required assurance stage gates, schedule, and approved capex limits.

    • Collectively develop & review the project premises, design basis, key investigations, project technical documentation.

  • Prepare, support and evaluate test runs. Ensure that Bukom site wide integration and optimisation is taken care of in framing for all projects.

  • Fit-for-purpose networking with P&T and other sites to share and keep abreast of best practices.

  • Demonstrate strong learner mindset and commits to be digitally literate to drive value creation through digitalisation.

What we need from you

We are keen to speak to professionals with the following:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering

  • At least 5 years’ experience in refining or petrochemical industry. However, candidates with a different experience profile who meet the requirements of the role will be considered.

  • Familiar with primary and secondary conversion refinery processes and light ends processing/treatment and / Or Ethylene cracker, PHU/BEU, BD production.

  • Have sound understanding of project development, execution, commissioning, and start-up.

  • Prior experience in managing multiple demands and various stakeholders’ needs is essential.

  • Possesses strong analytical skills, communication skills (both oral and written), and interpersonal skills

  • Skill to mastery in process engineering /process safety competency. Skilled in Process Unit operations support, demonstrated knowledge in process safety, concept development, process integration, unit design, modelling & analysis, process unit technology, Distillation & Separation technology.
