Job Summary

Location: Detroit, MI

Conducts purchase and sales transactions to increase margin. Responsible for interacting with the market participants to develop, negotiate, and execute opportunistic business opportunities that create value for the company. Analyzes and reacts to current market and competitive conditions. Responsible for analyzing and evaluating complex energy transactions to ensure that all relevant aspects including energy price, transmission, counterparty, and contractual terms are favorable to and consistent with company guidelines for risk management. Work is mainly self-directed, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for trading power and gas financial markets and meeting PnL targets
  • Monitors fundamentals of power, natural gas, and basis markets
  • Reports to a manager or head of a unit/department
  • Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function
  • Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  •  
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of energy trading markets and trading practices
  • One year of experience in the energy trading business

Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Products

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Competencies should include adaptability, dependability, problem solving, teamwork, productivity, professionalism, and the ability to work under tight deadlines

The employee performs job duties primarily in a work from home capacity and periodically from a climate-controlled office environment, with a moderate noise level.
