PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Quantitative Analyst role for the Corporate Strategy, Innovation, and Sustainability (CSIS) analytics team will perform in-depth research and analyses on topics related to:

  • Integrating renewable energy into the electric grid
  • Assessing the evolution of the gas and electric system as a part of the overall energy transition
  • Assessing incentives and overall adoption of new technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Analyzing and reporting on general energy market trends

A solid understanding of traditional financial and/or economic modeling techniques along with a strong foundation in programing, statistical methods, and data analysis is essential. This role provides an opportunity to build or enhance those skills while acquiring in-depth expertise on a wide variety of energy-related topics. As a member of the CSIS analytics team, the successful candidate will collaborate directly with strategy, policy, and finance teams at each of our utilities and will have frequent opportunity to showcase their work with senior leadership.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leverage in-depth technical knowledge of predictive analytics, statistics, modelling techniques and simulation approaches to develop valuation, risk management, and pricing models.
  • Conduct research and produce proof-of-concept demonstration systems to test new quantitative modeling approaches and solutions to complex problems
  • Translate quantitative and business concepts into efficient, robust, supportable system design and architecture.
  • Partner with stakeholder analytics teams across ComEd and the Enterprise to expand the use and gather feedback on the models and systems

  • Reports to the Director Advanced Analysis
  • This is an individual contributor position that woks under general supervision, relying on knowledge, skills and judgment acquired through education and relevant experience to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative field
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant experience
  • Thorough understanding of applied and financial mathematics concepts and techniques (including advanced statistical techniques)
  • Ability to use a broad range of development languages (e.g. C/C++, Python, Perl, Matlab, etc.), and databases query languages
  • Ability to quickly master industry fundamental concepts including energy commodity markets, portfolio valuation, and system dynamics
  • Should be self-driven and able to work in (and lead) team sizes ranging from individual contribution to several members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ideal candidate with have experience performing advanced quantitative analysis
  • Energy industry experience--academic studies or through previous employment  
  • In-depth experience in one or more programing language
  • Background in applied system dynamics theory
