The role
- Starting 1st April or 1st July 2024, up to 20th September 2024
- 09:00 – 17:30 working hours
- Based in Central London
G-Research is seeking enthusiastic technology students to join our Platform Engineering teams on either three or six month placements in 2024.
Our Platform Engineering teams work to ensure our world-beating research Function can operate at its best. They create leading-edge developer tools, develop core technologies within Infrastructure as a Service, build Big Data platforms, work on large-scale compute farms and shape user experience across key platforms.
We also have a culture of continuous improvement and utilise open source tooling and best practices to increase the pace of delivery, providing an excellent opportunity for an ambitious student to work and gain experience with industry leading technology in a growing, fast-paced company.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Working on projects around OS lifecycle automation and automation of data platforms
Automating and replacing old workflows
Setting up, patching and decommissioning systems
Optimising and troubleshooting software and its performance
Successful candidates will join our Internship programme, which provides an in-depth introduction to the world of technology within finance, and benefit from extensive introductions to the internal workings of the business.
During your time with us, you will be paired with an experienced Engineer who will mentor you through your time with us and have access to numerous training courses, including online learning licences, to hone your technical skills and develop your soft skills.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a student with a demonstrable interest in IT and technology, and an aptitude for applying computing concepts and technical skills to solve real problems.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
You should be studying towards a 2:1 or above in a technology degree, such as Computer Science, Computer Systems, or similar
Highly organised and motivated
Enthusiastic about learning, with a positive attitude
Detail-oriented with a passion for research and development
Experienced in programming, testing, and debugging applications, ideally in Python, Java, Go or C#
The ability to demonstrate an understanding of object orientated programming, computer networking and security
As we wish to be able to offer graduate positions to successful candidates at the end of their internship, we will prioritise applications from those due to graduate in 2025. We have a preference for candidates looking for a six month placement, but will consider applications for three months.
