Senior HPC Network Architect (P-101203)

The HPC Network Architecture team designs and engineers the communications infrastructure that allows our large-scale (1000s of servers), heterogeneous distributed research environment to grow rapidly and operate optimally in support of our computing needs. The HPC network spans multiple, large-scale data centers, and the team supports both the LAN and WAN infrastructure.  We are looking for a Senior HPC Network Architect with experience designing and scaling networks for large high-performance compute environments to meet the requirements of a premier algorithmic trading firm developing strategies in our research environment to trade global financial markets.

This position requires both product leadership and vision on the future of cloud-scale networking, as well as deep technical skills. Working alongside some of the brightest minds in our industry, you’ll be responsible for everything from product selection and design to routing configuration and troubleshooting. You will work closely with our HPC Systems and other teams across HRT to scale our research environment. You’ll have broad responsibilities and the freedom to analyze and solve interesting problems that have an immediate impact on our operations worldwide. You will work on a wide variety of projects to enhance the performance and capacity of the network and contribute to both the management and the technical nitty-gritty of our computing architecture.

Qualifications

  • BS or greater in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related IT field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • In-depth understanding of common layer 2 and layer 3 network protocols and best practices; working knowledge of OSPF, BGP, PIM, IGMP, spine-leaf architecture, and VXLAN
  • Experience in selecting and working with vendors to engineer switches for next-generation computing environments
  • Experience managing Arista (EOS), Cisco (NX-OS), and SONiC-based switches, as well as an interest in exploring new platforms
  • Experience in designing computing and grid networks, capacity planning, and full lifecycle project management
  • Experience with packet decoding and analysis tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark
  • Experience with public cloud networks such as AWS, GCP, and Azure
  • Understanding of basic power consumption and cooling issues 
  • Knowledge of fiber optics technology and cabling standards 
  • Experience with Unix/Linux command line utilities and networking stacks
  • Incredible attention to detail and excellent prioritization skills with the ability to coordinate workloads to meet implementation schedules
  • Willingness and ability to solve small technical problems independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to distill and convey complex issues in clear and concise terms, including effective technical documentation
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible or Salt is desirable to support zero-touch network management
  • Familiarity with Python, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack is desirable
