Legal Counsel

Mumbai is our latest major trading hub. We opened our office in 2021 and, in the years ahead we are aiming to grow our business significantly. The Legal Associate will be part of this growth and help the firm keep pace with advancing operations by thinking out of the box, be able to work in a rapidly changing environment and not shy away from getting hands dirty.

Overview:

The Legal Associate is responsible for ensuring that the organization’s operations are conducted in compliance with legal requirements, company policies and ethical business practices. The Legal Associate acts as a business partner; provides legal support and advices across various departments and IMC entities

This is versatile role for an ambitious, entrepreneurial and self-driven Legal Associate. As the first Legal Associate on the ground, you will have the opportunity to have a broad impact across the business, and to help steering your own development and career path. You will be part of a fast-growing team in the scale-up phase, backed by a successful international organization with an outstanding track record.

Responsibilities:

  • Advising Technology and Business Support on a wide range of commercial legal issues;

  • Advising on reviewing, negotiating and drafting of all sorts of commercial contracts, such as master services agreements, purchase agreements, NDA’s, lease agreements

  • Advising on and assisting with any other legal matters that come up, such as matters relating to labour law or privacy law, and manage outside legal Associate when appropriate to involve;

  • Liaising with external Legal Counsel and local Compliance officer on regulatory financial matters and advise business teams, sometimes also working closely with the teams at other IMC offices

  • Collaborating with Legal & Compliance from other offices to design and enhance global standards (e.g. policies, training)

Skills & Qualifications:

  • LL. B with 5 - 7 years of experience with commercial legal work;

  • Experience in both a national or international law firm and as an in-house commercial legal Associate is highly preferred

  • Demonstrable knowledge of and expertise with Contract Law. Knowledge of financial law, labour law and/or privacy law is a plus;

  • Significant international experience through either a spending >1 year abroad and/or extensively working with international clients;

  • Broad interest in trading & technology and market structures;

  • Responsible self-starting professional with excellent analytical skills and drive for results;

  • Structured and pragmatic in problem solving and to the point in communication;

  • Ability to anticipate, proactively manage and mitigate legal risk;

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, global environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English

  • Excellent contract drafting skills
