Facilities Engineer

About the Position

We’re looking for a professionally established Engineer to join our Amsterdam office to help us design, maintain, and expand our European offices, trading floors, and data centre facilities.

From an engineering perspective, our goal is to deliver comfortable, reliable, and maintainable facilities. Every project must consider the features and systems that are essential for Jane Street to function, such as connectivity and resilience.

Although you will be working in an IT-centric environment, we are less focused on the specific discipline you’ve worked in, and more interested in a commitment to excellence, sound design experience, and well-reasoned engineering decisions.

Your work will be collaborative in nature, with specific responsibilities spanning all aspects of our physical infrastructure. Current members of the team have diverse backgrounds, ranging from construction and project management to mechanical and electrical engineering.

The people on our team are excited when projects like data-centre expansions or office-fit outs come up. We have a special sense of pride over these projects because we get to work in the spaces we build and maintain. Every day is an exercise in helping our colleagues do their best work, and your ideas will make the team stronger.

About You

  • 5+ years of experience with the maintenance and operation of mission-critical data centres, trading floors, or similar 24/7 environments; understands health and safety requirements and can anticipate future needs
  • Familiar with MEP disciplines including plant infrastructure, CRACs, UPS's, office HVAC, generators, fire prevention systems, lighting control systems, and building management systems
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Accustomed to working with technical people in an IT-centric environment, along with professionally diverse teams including non-engineers
  • Has working knowledge of data centre and dealing desk equipment and their mechanical and electrical performance profiles; previous design work for either is a plus
  • Can solve small problems in the field; handy enough to not always need a tradesperson
  • Willing to be part of an on-call rotation and respond to critical system emergencies
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; able to describe detailed problems with brevity and accuracy
  • Fluent in English
