Operational Risk Senior Manager - Finance Risk and Controls
As a risk professional you’ll bring knowledge of, and a genuine interest in best practice risk and control management focusing on developing and embedding strong risk frameworks. You will be highly motivated and have strong interpersonal skills. You will have demonstrated success in prior roles in a retail banking environment within financial institutions or a Big 4 consultancy, and have assisted organisations set up a robust control environment.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Partnering with the financial planning and analysis, financial control, tax and regulatory reporting teams within BFS Financial Management to develop and embed a best practice risk and control framework
- Identifying and assessing the key risks end to end and ensuring that appropriate controls are in place for the effective management of financial planning and analysis, financial control, tax and regulatory reporting risks
- Providing advisory expertise in embedding a best practice approach to risk management using data and analytics to monitor risk and perform assurance
- Identifying opportunities to simplify and automate controls
- Monitoring the effectiveness of the control environment and performing assurance over controls
- Designing and tracking appropriate metrics to monitor controls which are both preventative and detective
- Reporting on risks and controls to senior stakeholders
- Partnering and building relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including in the Product, Data, Technology and Risk Management teams
To be successful in this role you will:
- have 7-10 years experience in a Line 1 Operational Risk role, preferably in a retail banking environment within financial institutions or a Big 4 consultancy
- Have a tertiary degree in business/commerce and experience in the financial services industry
- Have deep expertise in best practice risk management frameworks for a finance function
- Have a data and analytics-driven approach to managing and monitoring risk including performing assurance over controls
- Demonstrate knowledge of financial management, tax and regulatory reporting risks and have a good working knowledge of financial accounting / management systems
- Demonstrate a strong risk and control mindset, with a proactive and pragmatic approach to risk management
- Demonstrate strong relationship building, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Be generous with your knowledge and time in coaching the team on best practice risk management
- Be curious and challenge the status quo
- Demonstrate good planning and organisation skills
- Be a self-starter and independent worker
