Senior Manager, Product Controller

As a Product Controller, Senior Manager, you will support our global Commodities Markets & Finance businesses with a focus on Energy markets. The Commodities Markets & Finance group provides clients with risk and capital solutions across physical and financial markets. Traded energy products include natural gas, power, crude oil, coal, refined products and carbon emissions. In addition, the division is active across all physical energy products: natural gas, power, liquefied natural gas, oil, natural gas liquids and coal. Energy Markets also provides storage and transportation services, and commodities-based financing.

In this role you will be responsible for maintaining strong internal relationships with the Front Office, Market risk, Financial Control & our Global Financial Services group. 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • review daily P&L report and associated reconciliations
  • assist with the month-end close and ongoing monitoring of the daily global energy P&L processes for 10+ legal entities
  • assist with meeting monthly close deadlines, including balance sheet controls, and various other internal/external reporting requirements
  • review journal entries ensuring clerical accuracy and appropriate support documentation
  • ensure compliance with all Macquarie financial policies and processes
  • assist in the continued development of finance policies and procedures
  • prepare compliance and support documentation for internal control and review purposes
  • document job processes and procedures, including identification of process enhancements and improvements
  • prepare other ad-hoc reports/schedules
  • review forward book ensuring proper derivative accounting standards are followed
  • work with the trading organization and management to help communicate variances in the daily general ledger from the reported daily P&L
  • facilitate discussions across the various reporting businesses to ensure consistency is applied across all of the businesses

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • comfortable tackling new concepts and ideas associated with on-going change in the business
  • ability to re-assess / re-engineer work processes
  • self-motivated and able to work independently to complete responsibilities with limited supervision

To be successful in this role you will have a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience is required, Big 4 experience and/or wholesale energy industry experience is desirable.  You will also have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA or another post-graduate degree is preferred
  • knowledge of the energy industry, specifically the oil, power and/or natural gas markets is desirable
  • familiarity with commodity financial instruments, such as futures, swaps and options, as well as basic valuation methodologies is desirable
  • computer skills including, but not limited to, Excel, ACCESS, Word or equivalents
  • People soft experience is preferred, but not required
