Analyst/Associate, Portfolio Operations

Join our recently formed Portfolio Performance Group (PPG) within Macquarie Asset Management as an Analyst. The Portfolio Performance Group is a team of high caliber, hands-on functional experts focused on delivering quantifiable value in the portfolio companies through partnership with investment professionals and management teams. The team is comprised of functional specialists in talent, transformation, safety, sustainability, technology, cybersecurity, procurement, construction, and data science responsible for the superior operational and financial performance across Macquarie’s growing portfolio of assets.

You will support the Portfolio Performance Group Functional Leaders on deal flow support including deal related coordination (diligence advisor coordination, underwriting analysis support, asset value creation plan development, project management, and ad hoc project based work). You will be actively engaged with Portfolio Performance Group members, investment team members, and portfolio company management team executives to deliver outcomes outlined by the Portfolio Performance Group Functional Leads.

Your responsibilities while supporting up to two of the Portfolio Performance Group Functional Leaders will be as followed:

Rigorous Tracking, Reporting & Visualization

In coordination with Portfolio Performance Group Functional Leaders:

  • Manage end to end data collection process; provide guidance and templates for data requests in projects related to Transformation, Human Capital, WHS, Sustainability or other functional areas
  • Partner with portfolio management team members to validate data submissions and assess discrepancies
  • Perform root cause analysis on variances and identify/ mitigate issues (i.e., financial gaps caused by as execution-related risks, operational variances, or inflation)
  • As required, monitor and collate weekly, monthly, quarterly performance against operational (including WHS) & financial targets, budgets/cost controls, and risks (as part of Transition Plan or Asset Management operating cadence)
  • Ensure that operational & financial impact can be clearly measured with metrics
  • Establish and handover a metrics-driven system for the ongoing measurement of performance as portfolio companies evolve through multiple improved future states
  • Support the development of Business Intelligence (BI) visualization tools including PowerBI and application dashboards to track progress
  • Build presentations and present relevant content to various stakeholder audiences including MAM Senior Leadership, PPG Functional & Investment Leaders, and Management Teams

Stakeholder Management, Coordination & Communication

In collaboration with Portfolio Performance Group Functional Leaders:

  • Coordinate activities with third party vendors including RFP or SoW development/review, vendor onboarding and vendor/project management throughout the deal cycle (diligence, transition, value creation, exit)
  • Coordinate onboarding activities and SoW development with Operating Partners (external advisors or contractors) as needed
  • Establish relationships with management team personnel and investment professionals to complete project-based work

Analysis & Business Case Development

Understand the operating levers and business model for portfolio company assets in order to:

  • Support analysis for Portfolio Performance Group Functional Leaders input to Investment Committee and deal model 
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Performance Group and investment team members and portfolio company C-Level executives to analyze data sets and establish KPIs, targets and expected business impact of Transition Plans, Transformation Plans or ad hoc project based work
  • Analyze and synthesize data from disparate sources to solve complex operational problems in Human Capital, WHS, Sustainability and Operations
  • Build intuitive, repeatable Excel based financial models and foster fact-based decision making

To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to develop trust-based relationships at multiple levels within an organization. You take initiative and embrace problem-solving frameworks, coupled with strong influencing and communications skills. Additionally, you will be a highly organized, analytical, and committed to sharing knowledge and learning from others.

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • 3-4 years of experience in Corporate Finance, and/or consulting leadership roles
  • Exceptional business and financial acumen, with proficiency in Excel models, analytics, and Lean Six Sigma principles and methods
  • Experience with change agility with strong change management and stakeholder management skills

Salary Range

Salary range for this position: $100,000 - $160,000/Yr. Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, peer and market data, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. The successful candidate may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award.
