ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Accountant will execute the performance of month-end close responsibilities timely and accurately, analyze financial details & drive innovation and efficiency in accounting processes.They will be expected to understand and manage both routine and complex accounting transactions. The Accountant will participate and assist in the implementation of automation strategies to optimize accounting processes, reduce manual work, and minimize errors. The Accountant will work with various functions across the firm and will be responsible for understanding the accounting, processes, and transactions within each function while providing financial insight to each, as necessary. This role interacts with several Apex teams, including FP&A, Billing, Regulatory Reporting, SEC Reporting, Treasury, Client Service, Operations, Compliance and Technology.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing and reporting processes. 

  • Drive expense reporting process and A/P process to facilitate close. Review and provide guidance on appropriate expense accounting.

  • Estimate, analyze and record revenue entries.

  • Prepare reconciliations for assigned accounts. Proactively communicate daily status and escalate issues as needed.

  • Identify opportunities for automating repetitive tasks, such as data entry, reconciliation, and report generation. Develop, manage, and implement workflow automation solutions.

  • Engage and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and automation in financial reporting, audit, and compliance. Assist in communication with different functions to ensure complete and accurate reporting.

  • Build and maintain comprehensive documentation of processes including automated solutions where applicable

  • Handle audit requests for financial statement audit and regulatory exams

  • Actively participate in firmwide and departmental projects and initiatives

  • Serve as a back-up and resource to department management and accounting staff for daily or ad-hoc tasks

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting

  • 2 - 5 years of prior accounting experience, preferably in a similar role for a clearing or investment firm, proprietary trading firm, bank, or trust company

  • NetSuite experience is preferred

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent attention to detail, an exceptionally high degree of initiative and adaptability, and the ability to multi-task

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and the ability to communicate constructively within the department and the firm

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

  • Ability to work with different entity functions to ensure appropriate reporting

  • Ability to work with numerous and conflicting deadlines

  • Ability to perform many complex and confidential tasks with speed and accuracy

  • Ability to exercise independent judgement

  • Ability to communicate issues while providing suggestions for solutions/conclusions

  • Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems

  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
