International Senior Tax Associate

Summary

The Point72 Tax team is seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong sense of intellectual curiosity and impeccable attention to detail to assist with all aspects of non-U.S. tax return compliance, tax provisions, planning, and automation. The current Tax team is comprised of seven team members based in Stamford, Connecticut (USA), two team members in Warsaw, and one team member in India. The successful candidate would work closely with the finance and accounting teams based in London and across our various offices.

The Tax team conducts tax research and planning projects and oversees Point72’s tax compliance for 30+ funds, 75+ private equity and management companies, and high net worth individuals and tax-exempt organisations. Our team manages all tax-related projects with external counsel, public accounting firms, and within Point72. We also coordinate with Big Four accounting firms to prepare and review partnership, corporate, individual, international, and state returns. The team invests significantly in technology to help automate its compliance process and has developed several best-in-class proprietary tax software internally with the assistance of Point72’s dedicated Tax Technology team.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will gain broad exposure to a variety of markets and the tax issues impacting each. Specifically, you will:

  • Prepare and perform initial reviews of various tax work papers and tax returns, with a primary focus on non-U.S. management company tax compliance in Australia, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UK
  • Collaborate with Point72’s Accounting team on computation of income tax provisions and deferred tax calculations for all non-U.S. management companies in the above jurisdictions
  • Assist with Point72’s transfer pricing and country-by-country filings, including the review of annual transfer pricing documentation
  • Lead automation and process improvement initiatives related to non-U.S. tax provisions and returns
  • Assist with audits conducted by tax authorities in the above jurisdictions
  • Prepare and review UK and India tax work papers and returns for hedge fund and PE investment entities
  • Assist with the preparation and review of U.S. information return filings related to non-U.S. operations, including Forms 8865, 8858, and 5471
  • Analyse tax implications of trading new products / strategies in non-U.S. markets
  • Assist Vendor Accounting Operations team with questions related to indirect taxes (e.g., GST, withholding tax, etc.) in non-U.S. jurisdictions
  • Assist Payroll team with interpretation and compliance with employer-related payroll taxes, including annual employer and employee reporting
  • Proactively monitor and communicate to relevant stakeholders any potential non-U.S. tax law changes/developments and/or impact to the Firm 

What’s required

  • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in the field of accounting, taxation, or law
  • Experience at a large public accounting firm preferred
  • Experience with income tax return compliance in one or more of Australia, France Hong Kong, Japan, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UK
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; Graduate Degree in Tax a plus
  • CPA, CA, or equivalent
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills; VBA and other programming knowledge a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience working on tax audits a plus
  • Exceptional organisational skills to effectively manage shifting priorities, with a focus on clearly and frequently communicating with superiors
  • Proven experience working remotely and independently
  • Superior problem-solving skills and ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced environment
  • A highly analytical mindset and a strong work ethic
  • Self-starter with impeccable attention to detail
