Sr. Trader - Natural Gas

The Role

The Canadian Natural Gas Trading Desk is seeking a Senior Trader. This exciting Shell role will trade term financial and physical gas positions and will be part of a team of traders who manage a gas portfolio comprised of customer business, structured commodity agreements and assets in Canada. The individual will work with Canadian Gas team to manage overall portfolio of Fixed price, Basis portfolio exposures, and Canadian currency across the desk.

The Senior Trader will participate in activities such as speculative trading, supply and marketing arrangements, product development, asset optimization, model development and risk management activities to preserve value and reduce risk via the use of all traded instrument types available in both OTC and Exchange.

Shell is a top tier global energy provider that has Trading Operations throughout the world. The Canadian Natural Gas Trading Desk has daily interactions with Gas and Power Desks located in various offices in the United States and receives regular market updates of activities in Mexico and Brazil. The Trade Desk also has weekly trading/market update meetings with our European Trading groups. The Canada Trading Team will also have a critical role in the LNG Canada value chain, providing feedstock to the plant each day.

Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for Term Trading with a minimum annual P/L target of $7 Million
  • Collaborate with the Canadian Gas Team to manage overall portfolio positions of Fixed price and Basis exposures across the desk and help manage long term Canadian FX exposures
  • Team up with traders, marketers, affiliates, and customers in various locations to provide competitive pricing and support
  • Develop fundamental outlook in concert with fundamentals team to drive shorter term and long-term positioning in book
  • Progress comprehensive short to medium -term gas trading strategies
  • Communicate market view quickly and concisely to other members of the team to drive integrated value across commodities and tenors
  • Cooperate and work in partnership with internal teams such as Finance, Credit, Legal, Structuring, Operations, Regulatory, Fundamentals, Contracts, Market Risk
  • Strong focus on Compliance and adherence to Regulatory governance within the region
  • Contribute to and ensure alignment with SENA's overall goals and strategies

Skills & Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of related role experience; preferably in financial and natural gas in Canada
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Business, Finance, or related field
  • Knowledge of and adherence to industry Compliance and Regulatory rules specifically regarding FERC compliance to pipeline and capacity operations
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
