The Role

What is the role

The role will focus on managing assets associated with natural gas transport and storage in the West region.  This will require trading of physical and financial natural gas products.  To be successful, the candidate will require a deep understanding of the US pipeline system and the pricing mechanics that balance the pipeline system on a daily/monthly basis.  The ability to develop relationships with customers, pipeline and storage representatives, and internal stakeholders is critical.

You will work closely with Shell traders and originators each day to deliver portfolio value by optimizing exposures.   

Responsibilities:

  • Manage/Optimize physical and financial gas positions on assigned pipelines and storage in the West
  • Manage a portfolio of transportation and customer load and affiliate requirements
  • Develop fundamental outlook in concert with fundamentals team to drive shorter term positioning in book
  • Communicate market view quickly and concisely to other members of the team to drive integrated value across commodities and tenors.
  • Collaborate and work in partnership with internal teams such as Finance, Credit, Legal, Structuring, Operations, Regulatory, Fundamentals, Contracts, Market Risk.
  • Collaborate with functional groups within Shell Energy including:
  • Accounting, Customer Support, Risk Control, and Power Scheduling to facilitate the tie-out and settlement processes for daily P/L reporting and exposure reporting.
  • Contract Administration to verify/reconcile broker information as well as physical power delivery language.
  • Records Management.
  • Credit.
  • Analyze historical pricing relationships to cash and forward prices.
  • Contribute to and ensure alignment with SENA's overall goals and strategies.

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years of industry or commodity trading experience.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to industry Compliance and Regulatory rules specifically regarding FERC compliance to pipeline and capacity operations.
  • Thrives in a high-pressure multi-tasking environment where time sensitive tasks/projects must be consistently delivered with high quality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to make quick and well-reasoned decisions is critical.
  • Demonstrated self-starter.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Good human relation skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrate Grasp of economic reasoning skills.
  • Able to reside in San Diego.
