Demurrage and Post Deal Analyst

The Role

What is the role

Demurrage Analysts at Shell Trading are an integral component of the business team and sits within Operations Support. Our team members interact internally with traders, IT professionals, contract administration, accounting, and credit, while working externally with demurrage counterparts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze and negotiate demurrage claims from ship/barge owners and third-party customers in line with charter party and commercial contract terms
  • Invoice third party customers in line with charter party and commercial contract terms
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers
  • Actively communicate with counterparties to ensure timely collection of receivables, ownership of all outstanding debt
  • Report status of demurrage negotiations to traders
  • Efficient processing of demurrage payables, timely and accurate billing of receivables
  • Communicate with shipping group to proactively avoid potential demurrage issues
  • Thoroughly review contracts and advise traders when laytime and demurrage language requires realignment. Review third-party contracts and proposals for potential commercial risk.
  • Analyze demurrage trends to understand business changes and advise trading group in ways to minimize future risk
  • Develop ad-hoc metrics to stay ahead of an ever-changing business
  • Analyze and negotiate demurrage and post deal expense claims from ship/barge owners and third-party customers in line with charter party and commercial contract terms

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Bachelor's Degree or 4+ years of demurrage experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a demurrage/post deal claims analyst
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • TSAP and ENDUR proficiency

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Maritime, Accounting, Business, Finance, or Mathematics
  • 2 years demurrage analysis experience with Maritime focus
  • Shipping knowledge
  • Experience with Charter Party Agreements
  • Exposure to contract interpretation
