The Role

JOB TITLE: AI researcher - modelling

MCDS professionals work with data and mathematical and physics-based models for nearly all business units in Shell. The models and insights created support the business in finding hydrocarbons, running facilities, creating new products, and understanding customer needs and behavior.

Where you fit

AI Research team works on Applied AI industrial research to support Shell in its Powering Progress mission. What this means is that you will be working with a very diverse set of businesses spanning ranging from commodities trading, agro forestry to oil exploration, EV charging and Mobility, Biofuels, as part of AI research team, where we work with our stakeholders to identify and frame their challenges and opportunities as AI/Data Science challenges. As part of the research team, you will be involved with projects with both internal experts in their domain as well external experts from academia (Top University Research Labs) and industry to develop solutions in various form factors ranging from web applications, Edge IoT integration with Production systems, Mobile/ handheld applications, custom HPC – Cloud integrations.   This role is multidisciplinary in nature and requires somebody who enjoys working at the interface of AI, Deep Science and Engineering with a commercial mindset. 

We have an exciting position for an AI Researcher to join the Deep Learning Research (DLR) group which is part of Shell’s project and technology organization. Our team works on developing next-generation deep learning solutions for various businesses across Shell’s portfolio in Multimodal ML, Graph ML and Scientific ML.

What’s the role?

Your accountabilities are:

  • As an AI Researcher, you will be conducting research resulting in advanced deep learning solutions for business problems and developing code on different cloud platforms.
  • You will be a member of an engaging and collaborative team and will work with the stakeholders and subject matter experts of various businesses as well as external strategic partners from both academia and industry.
  • You will apply best practices in AI research to build solutions that deliver value to our end-users. We are looking for candidates with background in Vision, Graphs, Forecasting and Optimization. 
  • Translate complex business problems into Deep/Machine Learning solutions.
  • Design, implement and deliver advanced Deep Learning solutions to solve a wide variety of business problems.
  • Build relationships with internal project stakeholders and external partners from both academia and industry.
  • Be a proactive communicator who is excited to share your work and present insights and findings.
  • Stay current on state-of-the-art Deep Learning techniques.

What we need from you

  • PhD or master’s in engineering, Computer Science or other relevant fields is preferred with 5+ years relevant experience.
  • Proven experience of building Deep Learning solutions with Pytorch/TensorFlow is a must.
  • Experience with building and deploying Deep Learning Solutions on cloud platforms such as MS Azure and AWS is required.
  • Hands on experience working in developing production ready solutions in Geospatial, Remote Sensing, Graphs, computer vision, knowledge graphs, spatio-temporal forecasting, Bayesian ML, recommender systems. Bonus points for cross-domain experience
  • Hands on experience working with self-supervised learning is preferred.
  • Track record of publications in AI venues is a plus.
  • Experience across project lifecycle from ideation to delivery and track-record of project delivery is a plus.
  • Excellent communications skills and experience of working in high-pace environments and project teams.
