Senior Process Engineer

The Role

Where you fit in

You will work on Shell Jurong Island, together with a team of technologists supporting Production Unit 3 in reliable production, sustainability, and safety. You will also be involved in   project design and implementation to keep Production Unit 3 ready for the future. Production Unit 3 includes Ethylene Oxide and Glycol (EOG) plants including High Purity Ethylene Oxide (HPEO) units as well as Ethoxylates units (EOD).

What’s the role?

Your major responsibilities are to provide support to the plants in the following areas:

  • To contribute to the continuous improvement of the operational safety, operational reliability, efficiency, and unit performance at our plants. Provide on demand assistance, guidance, and advice such as troubleshooting to Operations leading to optimal operation of the assets.

  • Capture process data through daily and long-term monitoring and share/review these data with the integrated plant team. Where necessary, you develop and propose corrective actions in a drive for constant improvement for the plant.

  • Responsible for working in a safe manner and demonstrating a personal commitment to both personal and process safety.

  • Develop guidelines for operation within the design envelope of the process and equipment and to enhance the reliability of the facilities (operating windows, corrosion loops, Instrumented Protective Function classifications, operating manuals).

  • Support and follow up (gap closure) of studies on process safety (such as Process Safety Analysis, Bowtie review, Safety Instrumented Systems review) and reliability (Integrity Operating Window review, Managing Threats, and Opportunities).

  • Provide coaching to junior technologists, as well as showing a drive to develop yourself.

  • Responsible for working with and growing with the management systems used to run SJI.

  • Ensure technical assurance and technical integrity of proposed plant changes by leading multi-disciplinary team reviews, challenge sessions, etc. This includes leading or participating in project development or execution.

  • Plan, conduct, and document test runs to improve unit performance.

  • Contribute to the technology development plan for the asset by proposing and implementing process technology improvements and determining the economics of the proposed changes.

  • Generate, develop, and implement innovative solutions to technical or operational problems.

  • Contribute to multifunctional teams in site wide initiatives, such as participation in unit shutdown preparation and coordination.  Support turnaround and catalyst change activities.

  • Build effective network in the EOG community via existing networks and evaluate best practices from other sites operating EOG units for deployment in SJI units.

What we need from you

We hope to see as many of the following:

  • Educated in technical or engineering discipline at tertiary level, preferably in Chemical Engineering.

  • Have around 6-8 years technology experience in manufacturing units and/or design office.

  • EO and glycols experience, either in operations and/or technology is preferred but not required.

  • Possesses strong communication skills (both oral and written), and interpersonal / stakeholder management skills.

  • A team player with the ability to lead change and deliver results via teamwork.

  • Experience in providing supervision and mentorship to junior team members.
