Senior Software Engineer

The Role

Where you fit in?

The role is part of and supports a global team. This role will primarily work with the Shell Energy business. This includes the domestic gas/power marketing businesses in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, along with the Global LNG (SLMT) business.

The role offers the candidate the opportunity to participate in the new and growing LNG and Energy businesses. There will be many ‘new’ and ‘first’ for the candidate to be part of. The role is responsible for working with business and IT to deliver solutions in projects or enhancements for the evolving LNG and Energy business needs.

What’s the role?
The role is expected to work in predominately the DevOps way of working. The role will be working directly with business to understand business issues, fact finding, analyse impacts and dependencies, recommend end-to-end solution design, independently or work as a team, to implement the solution, or solve an incident or problem.

The successful candidate will work in project and/or application support teams in the delivery of projects and may include tasks from every part of the software development lifecycle, including task management, requirements gathering and traceability, prototyping, design and development, testing and release/patching.

The role may also support turn-key/SaaS solutions, which needs to work with third party suppliers to implement change requests, support end-to-end internal and user testing, testing/trials of software patches/upgrades, support deployment, post deployment validation and business acceptance.

The role may also involve the prototyping and delivery of a solution or new technology, which may include new development, configuration, and installation of third -party packages, and software integration efforts. It may include tasks from every part of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, programming, and software deployment (both the installation and decommissioning of software).

Deliveries process and activities, standards, and communications, will be in accordance with the enterprise/team guidelines, tooling, processes, and norms (e.g., attending and providing sharing sessions, attending scrum calls, process improvements, etc)

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Capture and document user requirements into specifications, from inputs from subject matter experts and Design Authority.

  • Understanding business requirements, to pilot and prototype new solutions and technologies, including procurement, setup, development, demonstration, and deployment.

  • Support Projects and Support teams in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including Requirements Gathering, Analysis, Design, Coding, Testing, Implementation, and Production support for software systems.

  • Determine and design solutions that are scalable and sustainable for a global business

  • Establish and maintain stakeholder satisfaction levels. Build and develop strong trust relationships with the stakeholders demonstrated through clearly owning, resolving, and communicating issues and problems

  • Contribute/participate in local and global IT community activities

What we need from you?

  • Intermediate/Expert level of experience in successfully providing application support / development in a corporate setting.

  • Full life cycle development experience in a project development role.

  • Experience in supporting a diverse application landscape, including change management, application testing, data integrity management, patch management and end-user support and training.

  • Experience designing or changing business critical reports/processes to gain full value from technology solutions.

  • Power and Energy trading industry experience required.

  • Understanding of valuation and pricing models as they pertain to energy commodities.

  • Commodity experience with one or more of the following commodities: Power, Natural Gas, LNG or NGL.

  • Corporate IT experience as Endur Developer.

Has work experience of the following:

  • Openlink Endur (v14+) development experience

    • Endur AVS/JVS coding skills

    • In-depth knowledge of Endur’s DB schema

    • Extensive knowledge of Endur’s Simulation Results and AVS/JVS Libraries

    • Experienced in handling memory management issues with AVS/JVS scripting

  • Familiar with Microsoft Azure DevOps tools (such as VSTS and GIT)

  • Familiar with Software Engineering processes (such as Configuration Management, Change Management, Release Management, etc)

Secondary experiences which are valued:

  • Experience with software development using MSFT C# and ASP.Net

  • Experience with software development using Java

  • Crystal Reports development experience
