Reporting to the Head of Advice – APAC, the Senior Compliance Advisor is a member of the APAC Advice team within the Trading & Supply (T&S) Compliance organization.
The APAC Advice team has responsibility for:
Acting as the first point of contact for all regulatory & compliance advice to the various T&S businesses within their region.
Providing guidance and advice to T&S businesses on the Code of Conduct. Managing the escalation of more complex regulatory & compliance or Code of Conduct queries to the relevant Compliance SME.
Reviewing new product or activities as part of any T&S new business approval process.
Assisting the T&S Compliance Training team with the allocation and delivery of training.
Providing input to Compliance Risk Assessments.
What’s the role?
As the Senior Compliance advisor, you will be responsible for leading Compliance support for Shell Energy Australia (SE Aus) and other T&S or related businesses. This will require expansive knowledge of markets and regulatory framework.
You will be expected to:
Establish effective business partnering relationships with the Business. Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the Business activities, Compliance risks and controls.
Assist the Business in understanding the Compliance risk implications of their current and proposed new activities, as well as the application of potential risk mitigations and controls.
Proactively provide guidance and advice to the Business in relation to all regulatory & compliance requirements and risk, including (but not limited to):
compliance with external regulations / internal requirements, or conformance with Group Standards, Manuals and Shell Trading Policies
the understanding and mitigation of regulatory and compliance risks such as market manipulation, anti-trust, bribery & corruption, and money laundering.
Partner as a regional SME with all other parts of the Compliance team, including in the development and execution of the Compliance training agenda, the execution of the annual Compliance assurance plan, controls design & implementation, regulatory relationship management, the review of compliance readiness for new market entry and integration of new markets or businesses as required.
Develop the skills and competencies and managing more junior members of the Compliance Advisory team within SE Australia.
You will thrive in:
Supporting the business in managing its compliance risk at a time of expansion into new markets and growth via acquisition.
Your ability to interact with and influence at all levels of the T&S organization, including T&S leadership. Where required may establish external relationships with key industry bodies and regulators within Australia.
Representing the compliance and regulatory function on the Shell Energy Australia leadership Team and other regional leadership meetings as needed.
What we need from you
We are keen to speak to professionals with the following:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (or equivalent work experience).
Extensive years’ experience in a combination of Trading Compliance or comparable Governance and Audit roles.
Understanding of the regulatory frameworks that apply to the East Coast gas and power wholesale markets and financial sector regulation.
A strong understanding of Australian Energy Markets and compliance risks.
Knowledge of the Australian T&S Businesses (including electricity, gas, and environmental and financial products) is required.
Exposure to Domestic Energy Policy and regulatory development. Understanding of global / country functional regulatory and compliance networks.
Extensive prior experience in a regulatory or policy role within an external business, market body or government is highly desirable as well as experience in managing compliance for a trading function.
Proven leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to motivate, develop and drive performance and encourage team dynamics as well as experience operating as part of a business leadership team.
Robust written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization, both internally and externally, and engage with a wide range of stakeholders. Credible and persuasive in ensuring the needs of our complex business are fully understood, resolve conflict, and deliver tough messages.
