What is the role?
The role will work with Trading & Supply Commercial representatives to identify fit for purpose second line of defense processes to ensure complete portfolio integrity and determining where and how best to operate these controls.
In addition, this role will have responsibility for running certain other Market Risk processes and controls as deemed appropriate and necessary.
The role will lead a team of direct reports, and the role will report to the Global Manager of Market Risk Operations.
This role will ensure consistent policies, controls, metrics, and systems are in place to ensure compliance with the global Risk Management framework. The role works closely with risk leads for all parts of the risk management spectrum including a significant Business Operations component, the Business Integration organizations, and others with risk management and control responsibilities.
As a Market Risk Operations Manager, you will be responsible of the following duties:
The Market Risk Operations group ensures Market Risk processes and controls are run accurately, reliably, and right first time.
The Market Risk Operations group is also responsible for maintaining observable valuation inputs e.g., exchange prices, broker quotes, derivable volatilities, and correlations to risk calculations.
Understand physical spot price assessments and the construction of forward curves.
Carry out the review and execution of SOX controls and manage communications with auditors after they are completed.
Manage user testing of systems functionality and enhancements while providing feedback to key stakeholders.
Must be a systems and data expert ensuring that knowledge around market risk reference data & forward curve construction is well documented for the benefit of the wider Market Risk team.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement across all levels of the organization by having courage to challenge established processes. This includes identifying inefficiencies in local and global operations and opportunities to streamline and automate shared processes and interfaces.
Ensure process excellence, identifying bottlenecks in Risk processes. Ensuring that error-checking is a natural part of all processes, so output is ‘Right First Time’.
Drive a vision for the team to aspire to and define a clear path to get there, with milestone achievement steps along the way.
Map and document processes, clarify accountabilities, and simplify interfaces to allow the smooth running of the Risk organization.
Accelerate digitalization and automation to smooth the flow of information across the business and to remove manual tasks.
Actively manage resources & processes to optimize the efficient analysis of risk across the portfolio, manage change and prioritize accordingly.
Be an end-to-end deal expert understanding risk at all parts during the life of a deal interacting with the functional experts to help identify and suggest remediation to those risks
Responsibility for managing and directing team members both as direct reports and some which aren’t direct reports.
What we need from you
We are keen to hear from candidates with the following qualifications/skills touched by their work experience:
At least ten (10) years experience within a trading and risk management organization, including a strong understanding of trading, operations, risk, compliance and mid/back-office business processes, policies, procedures, and controls
Degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, or IT; or relevant workplace experience in the energy trading industry is required
Thorough understanding of financial, commodity and energy markets; derivative instruments and hedging techniques
